Updating updating

Been rethinking some of my layout decisions of this site. Mainly the big goofy header that once sat at the top of the page. It is now a slightly smaller, goofy header. I designed most of the site to be easy to update because I knew I would never tend to it if it were complicated. While most of it is easy to fiddle with, the header was not. I still have a long ways to go with this thing. Like that dismal footer down at the bottom. Ick! I also need to do something about my logo. ~~It just isn’t something I’m too fond of and it shows.~~ Decided to simplify it quite a lot and I’m much happier for it.

Sandy Storytelling

Wonderful. This is a brilliant piece of storytelling by Kseniya Simonova for the television show “Ukrain’s Got Talent.” When I started writing this post I knew very little about it, but as I’m trying to be a bit more investigative with my posts, I learned a few things. The breakdown of what’s happening in the story can be found here along with some of her other videos.

Simply stated, it’s a story about WWII from the perspective of a woman from Eastern Russia, and the toll it takes on her and her family. While I am still and will always be a huge fan of silly cartoons, this video sure does accentuate the spellbinding affect art can have on an audience. I know a lot of people cry during Bambi or Beauty and the Beast but this is different. You’ll notice a lot of the audience members getting pretty emotional during the presentation. At the above mentioned site it explains that nearly every member of the audience lost someone close to them during the German invasion.

A very heartfelt and stunning work. I hope I can find out more about the process she went through to learn it. And a big congratulations to Ms. Simonova for actually winning the entire contest.

Prettying things up

Been spending a lot of time lately doing some polish work to the site. So far I’m happy where things are going. Recent “pretty” additions include two new jQuery plugins. The first is a slider plugin that will reveal a before and after version of some of my photo work. The other plugin is something that makes the Art gallery look a little nicer. The next few weeks I’ll need to focus more on getting content in. All the bells and whistles in the world don’t amount to much if there’s no horsepower behind it!

Mmmmm… smells like a feed in here… If I knew anything about RSS I’d be a lot more excited about this, truthfully however, I really don’t quite get it. Hopefully this will shed some light on the whole ordeal for me. Just click on that little RSS button on the top there, we’ll all feel a lot better about this I’m sure.
